Patterned from an original shirt
worn by Englishman Charles A. Parkins who served in the Confederate
army, and was later made part of the Don Troiani collection. Now
known among the living history community as the "Louisiana shirt",
variations of this shirt have easily been one of the most popular CS
issue undergarments among living historians for many years. Our
kits will have one notable difference in their appearance, and that is
the material from which they are made. The original shirt is made
from a very narrow 27" wide cotton material, and the side seams and
vents utilize the selvege edge and makes for an easy and speedy
assembly. The unfortunate truth is that today no weaver in the
country, possibly the world can weave this cloth to the proper width,
thus making any reproduction of this shirt a compromise! Our kits
feature an excellent and exclusive Family Heirloom Weavers osnaberg
unlike any available today, which will give you a versatile and
authentic CS issue shirt appropriate for just about any impression!
The pattern of the original shirt is very simple to assemble, with no sleeve gusset, a plain, rolled cuff, and no buttonhole placket, yet the curved arm-scye and healthy cut allow for an absolute maximum of comfort! The shirt also features two exterior patch pockets, placed unusually low to allow for ease of access, and is closed by four bone buttons.
Kits will be available in medium (up to a size 42,) large (up to a size 48,) and for $5.00 more extra large (up to a size 52,) though bear in mind these shirts are cut very full and will fit several sizes larger!
With your kit you will receive:
-All the pieces pre-cut and pre-shrunk.
-A 5 page instructional booklet with dozens of full colors pictures.
-All the thread you need to assemble the kit and four bone buttons.
-Even a piece of wax for your thread.
