Columbus Depot Jackets

Based on the Private Woodward jacket, our reproductions utilize only the best materials and construction features to give as accurate a reproduction of this jacket as possible.  The bodies are made from a sumac dyed jeancloth that we had custom made for us.  Woven by Pat Kline and dyed by Ben Tart, our Columbus Depot jacket material marks the first time these two brilliant men have collaborated on a project.  Over time, the material will fade to the dirty tan color of the original jacket. Every exposed stitch is handsewn, with the entire perimeter hand topstitched, and two slit pockets set by hand into the interior.  The trim is made from old stock Family Heirloom Weavers wool kersey, which is the correct weight, weave, and color to match the original jacket.  The jackets have a five button front with cast brass block "I" buttons made by Parsley Brass.  Unlike our other reproductions, these jackets are not offered with any variation of the cloth, buttons, or other features.  No corner has been cut on our jackets, only the best materials and craftsmanship are used, and make these some of the best Columbus Depot jackets produced since the war!

A note about color: Sergeant Washington Ives of the 4th Florida Infantry (Stovall's Brigade of the AoT) wrote upon receiving his new Columbus Depot jacket that the jackets they were issued "are dark and light gray (mostly with blue collars and cuffs)..."  Other accounts corroborate this description, all agreeing that upon issue the jackets were gray with blue cuffs.  However, every surviving example shows a distinct tan hue, with interior areas (such as those exposed by moth damage) show the original light gray color of the jackets.  As such, our jackets will come to you "as issued" in a light gray color, and through natural use will fade to the distinctive tan color associated with Columbus Depots jackets.  This will give you a look as authentic as possible.  It is important to note that in the pictures on this page, the jacket on the left has been faded for just two weeks, and already it has that "veteran" look!
